Sarinah is one of Indonesia’s most iconic retail institutions. Established in 1966 by founding father Soekarno as the first modern department store in the country, Sarinah’s mission has always been to serve as a centre of trade and promotion for locally-made products and to support small and medium enterprises and cooperatives. In 2020, Sarinah’s flagship store in Thamrin underwent a major refurbishment with a scheduled reopening in 2022. Alongside the physical transformation, the team recognised the opportunity to build a digital presence that would complement the renewed store.

The vision was an app that offered a digital loyalty programme, digital vouchers, and eventually an integrated e-commerce service, bringing Sarinah’s unique product curation to customers wherever they are.

More Than Just a Loyalty App

The Sarinah app goes beyond a simple points card. It brings together the loyalty programme, voucher management, promotional content, and customer service tools into a single native application for iOS and Android. The app was designed with Sarinah’s customer base in mind — Indonesians who have an affinity for local craftsmanship and products, and who expect a seamless digital experience that reflects the prestige of the Sarinah brand.

An integrated content management system allows the Sarinah Digital team to publish articles, communicate ongoing promotions, and keep the app content fresh without developer involvement. A customer service messaging feature equips the team with a live chat tool to respond to inquiries quickly, meeting customer expectations in the digital age.

Dihardja Software partnered with the Sarinah IT and Digital team to develop the native mobile application for both iOS and Android platforms.
